Exhibition Objective Uncertainty Museu da Guarda

Museu da Guarda opens on the 11th of June, 2026, at 16h00

“Objective Uncertainty” at Museu da Guarda, curated by Martim Brion, brings together six artists—Pedro Boese, Martim Brion, Anna-Maria Bogner, Marco Stanke, José Maçãs de Carvalho, and João Jacinto—to explore the concept of change and hierarchical values in a visual dialogue. The exhibition posits that the present is inherently confusing, serving as a mirror for a society undergoing significant technological and sociological shifts.

The featured works span a diverse range of techniques, from abstract to figurative, including photography, sculpture, and painting. Each artist addresses space and material differently: Bogner focuses on spatial appropriation, Stanke on three-dimensional color layers in serigraphy, Boese on non-figurative editions, and Jacinto on the structural limits of painting. Meanwhile, Maçãs de Carvalho explores archive and memory, and Brion investigates coalescing interests from literature to digital media.

By presenting site-specific installations, “Objective Uncertainty” promotes an international and intergenerational dialogue. It invites the viewer to embrace the current state of confusion, to remain critical, and to look with an open mind.
